Square Design Interiors _ Women's Apparel Store _ Ioannina 3

***********************************************************************************************************

Working on the interior design of a shop is quite a challenge, as many diverse factors should be integrated in the design approach. A key factor and often a starting point is, of course, the brand, as the final design scheme should reflect the brand’s philosophy and vision. In other words, the interiors should tell the brand’s story and this should be done very effectively to result to sales. In order to do that, the overall environment should be considered to be a complete set, allowing the customer to walk through it pleasantly and have an exciting and relaxing experience.

Focal points, power walls, multifunctional fixtures, powerful and story-telling window displays need to be adopted in the design strategy in order to make shopping a wonderful experience. At the same time, practical issues such as the counter and the changing rooms, their size and location within the store are to be considered very carefully. These points are the ones with the greatest interaction between customers and staff and they should be designed in such a way as to facilitate their interaction and result to a happy returning customer, as this is the most important factor of them all.

Designing a women’s apparel store, all of the above and many more issues need to be taken into consideration, as the particular target group is quite savvy and all solutions should be filtered very carefully. At this Ioannina located store  that I designed and managed the construction process of, I had the pleasure to cooperate with International Visual, a London based visual merchandising company and I was so happy to see my interior design work literally being uplifted by their wonderful merchandising interventions and visual solutions.

With the combination of brand-aware, client-oriented interior design and focused visual merchandizing, the products were promoted in the best possible way, resulting successfully to customers having a relaxing and comfortable shopping experience.

Total Renovation of a Small Apartment, Thessaloniki

Σάντρα Κορκά - Square Design Interiors on {.k.} blog

The total renovation and change of use of a 6th floor old apartment took place in the city center of Thessaloniki. The former arrangement of the apartment was following past classic forms and functions of domestic living, which divided the various uses within small rooms. This fact did not serve the needs and requirements of the new users and so dramatic changes had to be considered.

In the process of the new design scheme, simple lines were used in conjunction with white walls and white surfaces, in order to give the illusion of a larger space. The only element that was kept from the old apartment was the outer shell and that in fact was thermal and sound proof treated. Moving on with a client-oriented design, considering the habits and aesthetics of the new users, the brand new apartment arrangement was composed of a master bedroom, a home office, an open plan living room and kitchen area, as well as of a significantly bigger bathroom than the former one. The bathroom included a built-in shower with marble tile coating that was secluded by transparent security glass panels.

The verandahs were quite lavish and they were designed in such a way as to offer privacy, by the use of “walls” of high plants. Two built-in raised flower beds separated the outer space from the neighboring ones, their short walls covered with ivory decorative brick. The atmospheric light coming from a specially designed insert actually transformed the space at night time, especially when used with the floor integrated lighting. In parallel, the deck floor of the exterior space created a continuation of the interior space outwards. Furthermore, the door window of the living room was totally redesigned and the new version folded externally, in order to keep as much of the interior space free as possible. Having followed this certain design strategy, the kitchen and living room open plan space was actually enlarged during a great period of the year, considering the mild Greek climate.

Interiors: Evandra Panych

OB-K Hello Evandra, give to us a description about: Evandra Interiors“.

Evanra:  Evandra Interiors is about casual living that is fun and elegant. I think the quirk and whimsical elements in my designs and my fearless approach to color come from my Brazilian background.

-What’s your philosophy about interior design?

-I’m firm believer that interior design is much more than creating a beautiful look. It’s about creating a quality of life. A space has to suit the needs of its occupants and reflect their personality.

-What’s your opinion, how our homes should be, so that everyone can feel comfortable?

-It should be filled with soft and durable textiles and have a no fuss-decor with some natural elements. In my experience, people seem to feel more comfortable in places that have some soft and natural elements where they can, of course, kick their feet up and relax.

-Your favorites materials, colors, that you love to use?

-My favorite materials are paint and fabrics. They can be an inexpensive and easy way to transform any room and furnishing. I love colour and at the moment I’m in love with chocolate brown and warm white combo – deliciously elegant.

-Which architects, designer –past or present- do you admire?

-There are several designers, architects, and artists that I admire and inspire me. Some are our favorite HGTV personalities, like Justin and Colin whose daring designs I admire, Debbie Travis and her amazing colour combinations, Sarah Richardson and her pattern combinations. I also love Jeanne Kopacz, Kelly Deck, and Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes (she is amazing!).

-A dream of you?

-My daring dream is to get more customers in Brazil and open my own store to sell some of my own designs in Canada and/or Brazil.

-What’s your first thought when you are hearing: Greece?

-The first image that comes in my mind when I think of Greece is white buildings against blue sky, and then Parthenon, of course, and Greek mythologies. I studied classic Greek literature at University years ago – it was one my favorite topics!

The project was about creating colorful outdoor living. It was inspired by the colour Tangerine (the colour of the year in 2012). It’s about enlivening outdoor spaces with bold accessories while everything else is kept neutral. Be brave – Be bold!

The plan featured in a major local magazine *East Coast Living*.
